Surveillance de la contamination des surfaces aux antinéoplasiques / Monitoring of antineoplastic surface contamination

Depuis 2008, l’équipe de l’Unité de recherche en pratique pharmaceutique (URPP) a déjà réalisé 5 études multicentriques de surveillance de la contamination des surfaces aux antinéoplasiques. Ces études ont pour objectif de faire un état de la situation chaque année et de s’assurer que la contamination demeure la plus faible possible, afin de protéger les travailleurs des établissements de santé.

Dans notre blogue du 13 janvier 2015, nous vous partagions l’affiche de l’étude réalisée en 2014. Nous sommes maintenant fiers de vous inviter à consulter l’article présentant les résultats de cette étude. Notre étude montre une faible contamination à trois antinéoplasiques (cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, méthotrexate) dans les 51 hôpitaux canadien participants.

Les résultats de l’étude réalisée en 2015 avec 48 hôpitaux canadiens seront présentés au congrès de la Société canadienne des pharmaciens d‘hôpitaux, les 30 janvier – 3 février 2016 à Toronto. Finalement, nous débutons la période de recrutement pour notre prochaine étude qui sera réalisée en 2016. Rappelons que nous offrons un rapport personnalisé aux hôpitaux participants, ce qui leur permet de mettre leurs résultats en perspectives avec la moyenne canadienne. Étant donné qu’il n’existe actuellement aucune limite de contamination basée sur des effets sur la santé, notre étude permet de suggérer un seuil pratique à respecter. De plus, les nouvelles normes de l’Ordre des Pharmaciens du Québec demandent une surveillance régulière de la contamination chimique.

Étude 2016 : recrutement en cours!

Since 2008, the Pharmacy Practice Research Unit team has already conducted 5 multicenter studies about surface contamination with antineoplastics. The objective of these studies is to capture the annual level of contamination, and to make sure that the contamination level remains as low as reasonably achievable in order to protect healthcare workers.

In our January 13, 2015 blog, we shared the poster for the study that was conducted in 2014. We are now proud to share that the article has been published. Our study shows that there is low surface contamination with three antineoplastic drugs (cyclophosphamide, ifosfamide, methotrexate) in the 51 participating canadian centers.

Results from the study that was conducted in 2015 with 48 canadian centers will be presented at the Canadian Society of Hospital Pharmacists conference, January 30 – February 3, 2016, Toronto. Finally, we are starting the recruitment period for our next study that will be conducted in 2016. As a reminder, we offer a personnalized report to participating centers that allows them to compare their results with the canadian average. Considering that there is no health-based exposure limit, our study suggests a practical limit to attain. Furthermore, the new Ordre des Pharmaciens du Québec standard require regular chemical contamination surveillance.
